Why should you prefer the Transaxillary (armpit) Approach?
Transaxillary breast augmentation refers to insertion of implants through a fine incision in a natural crease in the armpit. Such scars are almost invariably unnoticeable when mature, even when the armpit is exposed. The great majority finally look like one of the natural creases in the armpit.
So why isn’t every patient requesting breast augmentation given the option of having it performed through the armpit, instead of through an incision on the chest wall or around the areola, as is common?
Perhaps in many cases the answer rests in an article in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery published online February 21st 2010. I quote ~ “Because the transaxillary approach is technically demanding and is performed relatively rarely; many surgeons never master the technique”.
There is no substitute for experience.
