Laser Hair Removal

  • Reduces hair density and coarseness
  • Excessive hair growth becomes manageable
  • Reduces embarrassment and increases confidence

What is Laser Hair removal?

There is a variety of ‘hair removal lasers’ and light sources. The lasers designed specifically for hair removal are more efficient and effective than IPL (Intense Pulsed Light).

In the early days of laser hair removal it was believed that the hair root would be easily destroyed and that there would be permanent hair loss. We now know that this is only partially true. At the time of laser some follicles are destroyed but the majority are damaged to varying degrees. These damaged follicles can still produce hair, but progressively the hair is finer, fairer and shorter. Consequently, it is cosmetically less of a problem. In due course, some of these follicles with repeated treatment will be incapable of producing hair.

It should be noted that hair is phasic in growth. It goes through a growing phase; when the roots (follicles) present a large target for the laser beam. In the resting phase, the roots present a small target that is ignored by the laser. This is why you will need more then one treatment.

Preparation before Laser Hair Removal

Waxing and plucking of hair should be avoided in the weeks before laser hair removal, since doing this reduces the target for the laser.

Another important factor in the recurrence of hair growth is the action of male hormone (produced by both sexes) on a countless number of extremely small hair follicles that exist throughout the skin of virtually the whole body. Due to their small size they do not produce hair. However, over a period of years under the constant action of male hormone a percentage of these small follicles become larger and start growing visible hair.

For the above reasons, it should be understood that after a basic number of sessions of LHR ( Laser Hair Removal)  that touch up sessions will be required.

Particularly good areas in terms of response are the underarms and bikini area, which show a major change usually after 4 sessions and require fewer touch ups and less often. Face areas, partly because of the density of hair, require many sessions. However, such patients are usually very pleased to be able to control this major aesthetic and psychological problem of facial hair growth.

Examples of common areas and the costs of Laser Hair Removal are:

  • Full Face $250
  • Underarms $165
  • Bikini line $165
